Reading Southeast Asia

Here’s a list of books I’ve read/am reading while I’m in Hanoi and traveling around Vietnam and other parts of Southeast Asia.  They will probably mostly focus on Vietnam, since I’m here, and on Cambodia, Laos and the Hmong because of personal and academic interests.  If you have book suggestions for me, don’t be afraid to leave them in the comments with the title, the author and a sentence or two about why you liked the book.

The Things They Carried–Tim O’Brien (novel)

Catfish and Mandala: A Two-Wheeled Voyage through the Landscape and Memory of Vietnam–Andrew X. Pham

The Book of Salt–Monique Truong (novel)

Last Night I Dreamed of Peace:  The Diary of Đặng Thùy Trâm–Translation by Andrew X. Pham

The Latehomecomer: A Hmong Family Memoir–Kao Kalia Yang
