Spring, summer come to stay?
When an American friend went back to New Jersey for Christmas, her parents took her to the doctor, assuming she’d have some parasite or tropical disease. What she had was a Vitamin D deficiency. In Minnesota, I took Vitamin D pills for most of the year because, for much of the time, there was no sunshine. Despite the brightly colored flowers blooming year-round from terraces across the city, Hanoi has been cloudy, cold and miserable since late December. So, I was overjoyed today when the sun came out and stayed out for the whole day. My eight graders were appalled when I made them stand up and do a sun dance. So, it’s time to put the scarves away, I hope. Out with the sandals and summer dresses!
