Photo of the Week: 2 September 1945

2 September 1945 was the day on which Ho Chi Minh declared from Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi that Vietnam was independent of France.  Of course, the French didn’t leave until 1954, when they finally surrendered to the Vietnamese at the battle of Dien Bien Phu.  Then the Americans invaded and stayed until 1975.  I think they have more than one independence day.
